Bill Gates only became the Bill Gates we know because he allowed windows to be copied and used without license. Most of people who had a desktop computer at home during 90's used a "not official" copy of Windows, companies didn't use Microsoft for their servers and Windows security was crappier than nowadays, but Windows was the system "everybody" knew how to use, meaning companies could get much cheaper workforce using windows than anything else. Apple computers were much better than IBM could come up with, but Windows became the most used OS in every country around the world, the first one to be translated if I remember correctly. So piracy is not always a bad thing if a CEO thinks out of the box. Apple had the best product and Steve Jobs, but Bill Gates had Windows and piracy.
For God's sake, testing a software used to be the most expensive part of making one. Microsoft started making its users test their OS for them and now everybody is more than happy to test everything for free, from games to security systems...
There is a reason we only get banned for FM and HP, that's when we interact with the customer base that actually pays for it. If they are unhappy, then JC must act, other than that, we increase game community, many of us interact and help people in forums like reddit and increase the numbers of people playing, making the game more visible.
No one wants to play a game nobody else is playing, everybody wants a piece of everything millions of people are enjoying even if it, in fact, hurts them and their wallets. They want their customers happy and having a sense of "fulfillment". More players = more customers = JC happier, even if they need to turn their heads regarding cheating. And trying to avoid it would cost too much anyway...
