Yeah, but seeing MC cast the Cruciatus Curse on Rakepick would be too similar to that time Harry tried using it on Bellatrix after she killed Sirius in OotP. I think they want to make MC feel more distinct from Harry, and for the most part, they do a pretty good job of it.

Expect in this case MC was taught the curse by person they would have cast it on unlike harry in OotP.(if scenario was real)

Not to mention it would be cooler if spell actually did its job unlike what happened with harry back there.
