It's the same way for me too.

At first, it is not working for me but I don't know. now it is working. I play a few level, kill app, clear cache, open game again, try watch ads. May be 2 or 3 times and it works. Now you can try watching ads to get rewards from lootbox as @xyzhunter replying above(red circle). Almost coins and gems get from those lootbox ads.
