In my opinion you don't have to root, my device doesn't have root but I can use it using virtual phone like vphonegaga or another like it

Just don't use it on PVPs or leaderboard events. With some common sense you can prolong not getting banned.

Yeah that's fine. That's what I pretty much do and haven't been banned. You can still do limited events that do have leaderboard for rewards and etc as its PVE but it's better to not overdo it and end up on the leaderboards. PvP will most definitely get you banned.
