I think this is what happened with this new TLSQ. Part 3 prioritizes your exclusive partner and then whether you have befriended these friends or not. For Task 1, the option is between Chiara and Barnaby; whoever you date, you'll do the task with them. But, if you haven't befriended Chiara, you'll automatically get Barnaby regardless you're dating him or not. Task 2, Jae and Andre; the same with Task 1, but if you date neither of them AND haven't befriended Jae, you'll automatically get Andre. But, if you've befriended Jae, you'll get him. Task 3, Merula and Badeea; if your MC dates Merula, this is where the bug is, have to do both of them to advance your progress, otherwise you'll be stuck in Part 3 Task 3 (the good news is you can still finish the entire TLSQ despite the glitch). Task 4 will get you Andre regardless you are/aren't dating Talbott or have/haven't befriended him.

I found what you said at the beginning about prioritizing who you date interesting. I think, aside from the romantic TLSQ in Beyond, this is one of the few (or only) TLSQs that does something like this. When we met with the group for Task 3 of Part 3, since I'm exclusive with Merula, she mentioned something about us dating in the dialogues where we get stars. From then on, the TLSQ seemed strange to me, and I saw it exactly as that: as a TLSQ that prioritizes dating someone you're exclusive with or something.
