I don't know if this will work for everyone, but in story mode, you can prevent the Battle Error as long as enemy BP isn't more than 300-500 of your BP. Don't really know if this is really the case but from my own experience, Battle Error occurs when my and the enemy team BP is has a wide enough gap.

Other thing that I've been seeing is that any value of 5 or more triggers the Battle Error, so I don't know, maybe not go overboard on the damage slider.
