The “Do you pay?” comment assumes that if the mod became paid, I would automatically refuse to pay and then uses that assumption to dismiss my point. That’s a straw man. Suggesting a paid model is about setting clear expectations and boundaries, not about whether I personally would purchase it. If a product becomes paid and I choose not to buy it, that simply means I opt out. It doesn’t invalidate the argument that clearer models: free with limits or paid with defined benefits are healthier than vague expectations. Mocking the idea of a paid version avoids the real discussion.
