We can't test that because we don't have the time to play that far, we don't play 99% of the games we mod by ourselfs. If you report such stuff which is so far into the game, please record a video about the crashes when doing certain things. For me, the game and mod works just fine. I've done the first boss, multiple floors of the forest, mine and other stuff and no force close whatsoever.
If your game force closes, you have to try to restart it several times.
Should upgrading artifacts really lead to force closes, there is nothing else you can do than just don't upgrade it. We can't invest that much time just to reach certain points in games to test those cases.

You can really upgrade artifacts. You just need to put required items. The required items is another artifacts or other special crafted equipments. Without it the game will crashed.
