If you don't get a pop-up after your first start, then you can do it manually. I don't know, how you do it on mobiles, but it should be similiar as i do with my NOX. Just long press on the game icon, then choose "App Info". There you can switch on and off the overlay permission under the main section of "Permissions". :)

Can be installed and runs without problems on Android 5.1 & Android 7.1.2 Emulator and Real Phone Device with Android 12.
No issues whatsoever.
