If you have the old APK, you can install that and it should populate your data again. You will be unable to play due to the prompt to update, so I don't know if it will work.

Is there any workaround to prevent losing data? I did not sign in with Facebook beforehand and obviously can't now that it's pushing for an update so I will lose all progress if I uninstall.

I mentally figured out a workaround for updating while saving progress, but I haven't tried it yet. Plug your phone into a computer and locate the

world.playme.mechat

folder when browsing the file system on your phone using your computer. Move this folder to your computer and uninstall the game from your phone. Install the game again using the APK downloaded from here, then move the folder back to where you found it. I have successfully done this to transfer save data between the version from the Google Play Store and the version from this website. I don't know however if this workaround works for the issue of updating the game.

Just got around to doing this and I can confirm that it does work. I've updated the game and have managed to retain my save data.

I just tried it after you said it worked and it didn't work for me. All my data is reset and I have no idea what went wrong. Were you signed in with a social media account? I didn't have my game linked to anything, so I'm wondering if that's the variable that determined the success.

I'll take this as my sign to stop playing the game, since I've lost 2 years worth of progress and event-limited claims.
