There doesn't seem to be an option for this for non rooted phones, unless I'm missing something? I've read that Android as dialed up their security when it comes to changing anything to do with the Android folder.

Uninstall the "files" update in apps. Before you do so, if you have any photos/videos in safe folder they'll be deleted.

I did this for Google's Files app (version 1.70.515599993), making sure Play Store doesn't redownload the update but still getting 'something is wrong, please try again later'. I remember being able to rename files and deleting them like 2 years ago using X-plore, wasn't simple as I kept having to clear cache to stop the warning message but now it seems impossible without rooting.
