You are Bernhardt Godfrey. Your daughter is dead, and tonight you went to a bridge to follow to join her in the great beyond. But a farmer pulled you from raging waters, dragged your unconscious form back to his barn, and he told you something when you woke up.I can bring back your daughter. He left. You soon realize that this farm is not right. Not at all. Between the barn and the farmhouse, the most f*cked up beings you've ever seen try to flay the skin and meat from your bones. Arm yourself with a gun and a melee weapon. You MUST survive the night.
WHAT YOU DO
VISCERAL is a turn-based roguelite with a flashlight. Every run is a night on the farm: push row by row across a hidden map, fight what's in the rooms, spend what you tear out of them, and either walk out or awake back on the barn floor for the next attempt.Combat is about light first, then violence
- The dark is the enemy's side. Anything outside your beam is nearly impossible to hit and hits back harder. Find it, pin it, then swing or shoot.
- 3 action points a turn. Strike, study, move the light, or flee. Items are free. Be careful not to overexert yourself.
- Study the monster. One AP shows its stats, its weak point and what it's about to do. Weak points are the only way to crit. Every creature you study is written into the Notebook permanently, and each tier you reach gives you a permanent 10% chance to dodge that creature on every future run.
- Nerve. Taking damage rattles you; the lower your nerve, the more damage you take. Studying can restore your nerve.
- One melee weapon, one gun. Both wear out. Guns hit harder and reach further but need ammo you have to find. Charged melee blows, burst fire, captive bolts, nail drivers, a flare pistol that keeps whatever it hits lit for three turns.
Every creature has its own rules
The Ooser is blind and hunts by sound. The Harvester strikes from outside your light and is gone before you can turn. The Tearub weakens the longer you keep it lit. The Scarecrow crosses the room in a blink. Blights like the First Offering and Tender guard the worst rooms, and at the end of the fields waits something that used to be the farmer's son.Build a night
- 42 weapons in three rarities, each rarity carrying more passives: self-sharpening blades, boomerang rounds, branding hits that keep a creature lit, blows that restore nerve on a crit.
- Over 60 omens — relics that bend the run: more max HP, a reflector that burns your light brighter, a salesman's piece that puts a passive on your gun, and a handful of cursed ones you'll wish you'd left alone.
- Items for the fight: bandages, morphine, flares, adrenaline, grenades.
- Viscera is the currency. Something at the counter craves it. Buy or sell, never both, and reroll his stock if you can pay.
Die, and keep the book
Death ends the run, not the game. Every night unlocks new weapons, omens and items for the pool, and the Notebook keeps every page of Vaughan's story you found, every creature you studied, and the record of every attempt.THE DEMO
